About the Series

The Emerging Collectors Salon is a curated conversation series for those who are building their relationship with art — intentionally, personally, and on their own terms. Each gathering brings together collectors, artists, and advisors in intimate settings where the conversation is the point.

The Evening

The Emerging Collectors Salon Series launched exactly as it should have; with new faces, familiar friends, and a conversation that no one was ready to leave. The Emerging Collectors Brunch Series gave us the foundation: the community, the trust, the conversation. The Emerging Collectors Salon Series is what grows from that. Two formats, one mission: creating space for collectors who are building something intentional.

Hosted by Troy and the Hamm family at their home, the setting did what the best settings do — it disappeared into the evening. The outdoor space was perfectly arranged, the weather cooperated as if it had been on the invitation list, and the atmosphere felt less like an event and more like the kind of afternoon you describe to people for weeks afterward.

The conversation wasn't just about acquiring art, it was about what it means to truly support an artist. To show up. To share a meal. To build something that lasts beyond the transaction.

Each Salon brings together an art professional — whether an advisor, curator, gallerist, or other voice from the field — to help collectors think through how to acquire intentionally and live meaningfully with a collection. The format invites real conversation, not lectures. This first evening proved exactly why. Every voice in the room participated, and the conversation kept arriving somewhere deeper than collecting. Community, legacy, and what it really means to be part of an artist's story.

Voices in the Room
Host & Art Advisor
Troy Hamm Jr.
Troy offered his perspective as an art advisor, including his practice of using books as a primary tool for deepening art curiosity, a reminder that collecting begins long before the first acquisition.
Conversation Facilitator & Artist
Mark Francis
Artist, art professor, and husband of Align R.O.I. founder Vernique Francis, Mark guided the evening's conversation with the kind of ease that only comes from someone who lives at the intersection of making and teaching.
Featured Artist
Shavon Aja Morris
Shavon shared her practice and perspective as an artist whose work is rooted in womanhood; offering the room a direct line into the inner life of a working artist and what it means to be seen and supported.
Founder & Host
Vernique Hutchinson Francis
Founder of Align R.O.I. and the architect of the Emerging Collectors Salon Series, Vernique created this space because she believes first-generation collectors deserve a room that was built for them.
What the Room Was Talking About
01
Supporting artists beyond acquisition
The conversation kept returning to this: buying work is the beginning, not the whole of it. Showing up to openings, sharing an artist's name, commissioning work, sitting down to lunch — these are the acts that build careers.
02
Art as a tool for building community
More than once, the room circled back to the idea that art is not just something you own — it's something you gather around. The Salon itself was proof of that.
03
Curiosity as a collecting practice
Troy's approach — using books, research, and deep looking as the foundation of his advisory practice — resonated with a room full of collectors who are still forming their eye. Collecting begins with curiosity, long before it begins with a budget.
04
Womanhood, identity, and the work
Shavon's perspective as an artist grounded the conversation in something concrete — what it actually looks like to make work rooted in lived experience, and why that specificity is exactly what makes it universal.
